Life in New Mexico

Yes, we do have autumn in New Mexico. The temperatures turn cooler, especially at night, and the leaves do turn golden. And in Albuquerque, we have the additional color of the Balloon Fiesta. I continue to get excited about those glorious days at the beginning of every October when the skies are filled with hundreds of balloons from all over the world. It's a great excuse to act like a kid again.

1. Learning from the Wobbles

"A life spent in making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent doing nothing."

- George Bernard Shaw

I don't know anyone who has performed perfectly the first time all the time at whatever they have attempted in life. And quite frankly, when I do come across someone for whom a new task seems effortless, I consider that boring.

As the very wise trainer Bob Pike has said, "The learning is in the wobbles." This is where life gets interesting. We stand up to walk. We fall. We try again. We learn determination, and we gain a sense of accomplishment every time we struggle to learn something new. We build true self-esteem that is based in reality because we took on a challenge and succeeded.

I once attended a music workshop where the featured artist was a young man who played extremely well. However, he was at a stage where he was getting by on his natural talent. Fortunately for him, he possessed an abundance of talent. What he could not do, though, was provide any guidance for the young musicians who had come to learn from him. When asked to explain how to execute specific techniques, he did not know how to explain. "I don't know. I just do it." As he grew older and needed to expand his repertoire and his technical expertise, he lacked the discipline and practice skills to refine his craft.

Strange as it may seem, we can appreciate our stumbles along the way to achieving our goals. They help us to learn and grow, and they make victory that much sweeter when we cross our own personal finish line. We know we have earned it!

Are you struggling with a challenge now? Congratulations! Be grateful for the "wobbles." They remind you that you have chosen a task that is worth accomplishing. Keep track of what you are learning and be proud.

We must expect to fail, but fail in a learning posture, determined not to repeat the mistakes, and to maximize the benefits from what is learned in the process.

- Ted W. Engstrom

New Master Mind Groups

Are you in a Master Mind group? I am collecting interested (and interesting) people who want to join a new Master Mind group. Specifically, I have a writer/coach and a leadership consultant who are looking for a couple more people to join them in a Master Mind Group. They would like to meet regularly by phone, at least bi-weekly or monthly. Would you like to join their group?

To learn more about Master Mind groups and how you can benefit by belonging, contact me at info@one-e-anna.com

Watch for other classes in future issues of Notes.

3. Career Coaching Sessions
I coach people who are looking to enjoy their work, whether that means moving up in a current job or building a new career. It doesn't matter where you live - I can coach you by phone. Want to find out more? You can easily arrange this.

Please contact me at info@one-e-anna.com and I will follow up with you to schedule a free consultation - no strings attached!

  • I am now focusing on group coaching via Master Mind Groups - a great way to have multiple "coaches" in a supportive atmosphere and at lower cost than individual coaching sessions. Please contact me with your interest in joining a group or to suggest a type of group you would like.

  • My blog is all about Master Mind Groups, so please visit and join in the conversation there. http://mindblenders.blogspot.com
