What's New in My World
As we mark the end of 2005, I am impressed by what can happen within a year - and what you can make happen! My own life has changed dramatically, and I am excited about the possibilities for 2006.

A new experience for me this Christmas season has been observing the custom of lighting luminarias - candles placed in paper bags and lined up along sidewalks, rooftops, driveways, and yards. In Albuquerque, the challenge was to have 3 million luminarias glowing on the evening of December 24th. I think we made it, too. I enjoyed driving around the local neighborhood to see those softly glowing lights, illuminating the way. What a beautiful, peaceful sight!

1. Open to Receive

"Please, sir. I want some more."

 - Oliver in "Oliver Twist" by Charles Dickens

We want more - of something! It could be money, success with our work, a healthier body, more excitement, or great relationships. And isn't that the idea of our New Year's resolutions?

What makes us want more? In some cases, we have some of what we want already. Perhaps we don't have it yet but we have the idea that we want it. Somebody else has it, we have read about it, or we just sense that our lives would be more fulfilled with whatever this 'more' is.

How do you get more of what you want? Step number one is to be grateful for what you have already. This is a world of abundance! Keep a gratitude list and remember to think about the things you are grateful for on a regular basis. You know how wonderful it is when someone thanks you for a gift. Say, "Thank you!" When you send that message out into the universe, you have a much better chance of attracting more of the same type of things into your life.

The next step is to make space to receive what you want. Think of this "more" as moving into your house. First, you might have to rearrange the furniture and possibly clear out some items that you don't need. You can take visible action to get ready no matter what it is that you want to attract into your life. Clear out an area, de-clutter your environment so that there is a place for what you want. Create a welcoming atmosphere and believe that you deserve the gifts that will come your way.

This is the season when many of us focus on what we are giving. And we have many reminders that "it is more blessed to give than to receive." Let us also remember, though, that it is a blessing to receive and to do so graciously.

When you accept a contribution, another wonderful thing happens - you pave the way for more contributions. It can be a never-ending upward spiral. And it feels wonderful.

- Robert Middleton
