What Is New in My World
I love flowers, and I am enjoying the many varieties here in the Land of Enchantment. My lovely cat Sabrina is also enjoying the flowers, especially their tasty dried leaves. This summer I learned that New Mexico is a great place to grow lavender, and I had the pleasure of attending the Lavender Festival in Corrales, New Mexico. What a treat! Lavender is one of my favorite fragrances, and I just had to come away with lavender tea, sachets, a soothing eye mask, and even cookies made with lavender! Ahhh!

Just for Laughs

Summer is a great time for travel and for airline jokes! Here are a few actual announcements from rough landing situations. Enjoy!

  • Overheard on an American Airlines flight into Amarillo, Texas, on a particularly windy and bumpy day: During the final approach, the Captain was really having to fight it. After an extremely hard landing, the Flight Attendant said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Amarillo. Please remain in your seats with your seat belts fastened while the Captain taxis what's left of our airplane to the gate!"

  • Another flight attendant's comment on a less than perfect landing: "We ask you to please remain seated as Captain Kangaroo bounces us to the terminal."

  • After a real crusher of a landing in Phoenix, the attendant came on with, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please remain in your seats until Capt. Crash and the Crew have brought the aircraft to a screeching halt against the gate. And, once the tire smoke has cleared and the warning bells are silenced, we'll open the door and you can pick your way through the wreckage to the terminal."

1. Master Mind Group

A mind stretched by a new idea never returns to its original dimension.

- James Lincoln

Ever wish you had a whole network of people to help you run that great enterprise, You, Incorporated? A Master Mind Group could be the ideal way for you to easily acquire that support.

Master Mind Groups have a rich history. Napoleon Hill, in his classic book Think and Grow Rich, points out that all the great movers and shakers of our time have been involved in a Master Mind group. Benjamin Franklin gave credit for his success to his lifelong Master Mind group, the "Juanto". And just imagine the impressive Master Mind Group that included Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and Luther Burbank!

Notice that a Master Mind Group can - and should - contain members who are not all alike. What they hold in common is the desire to draw on their collective wisdom to achieve the very best in their diverse lives. The differences among members contribute new perspectives and stimulating ideas that create valuable challenges.

In a successful Master Mind Group, all members hold a positive attitude about the results they can achieve with the group's support, and they maintain a high level of trust. Each person contributes from his or her experiences, knowledge, and resources. Beyond the magic that happens in the group conversations, though, the inherent power of accountability accelerates individual action outside the group.

A Master Mind Group offers you the opportunity to benefit from the collective wisdom of a unique gathering of bright, innovative individuals. Members of this group can reap many possible benefits:

  • Clarify personal strategy

  • Share successes and good ideas
  • Solve problems and make effective decisions
  • Keep each other's confidence level high
  • Challenge, motivate, and encourage each other
  • Hold each other accountable

Are you ready to experience a Master Mind Group? If so, your timing is right for our upcoming Master Mind groups to be conducted via telephone conferencing. The first to be initiated is a Master Mind Group for Career Builders that begins on August 16.

If you would like to be in a different type of group, please let me know what kind of interest you want to pursue. I am happy to work with you to initiate a Master Mind Group that works for you!

When many minds concentrate on a single point, the activity generates a power over and above the sum total of each of the individual minds. It is as though an invisible force joins the group and provides additional insight.

- Jo Candrill, author of How To Form a Master Mind Group

2. Coaching Assignment

a)

Think about the kind of people who could be positive forces in your Master Mind Group.

b)

Make a list of individuals or describe what the common interest of your group could be.

c)

If you have described the common interest you want and would like to avoid the organizational fuss of setting up a group on your own, skip to step 'g' of these directions.

d)

If you have created a list of individuals, begin contacting them to invite them to a group.

e)

When you have a core group that has agreed to meet, set up a first meeting to determine your procedures.

f)

Get Jo Candrill's e-book, "How To Form a Master Mind Group" and reference her guidelines.

g)

Contact me to arrange the formation of your group, reservation of telephone bridge lines, and moderation of meetings. Send a message to info@one-e-anna.com, and let's get started!

3. Career Search Tip - Your 'Must Have' Lists

Having trouble deciding what job to pursue? For those who have been in the workforce for a number of years, please remember that your past does not dictate your future. However, your past work experience can give you clues to the jobs that suit you best. Even the volunteer work you have done can indicate good choices.

Before you begin perusing the job postings or talking to someone about a prospective job, get clear about what you absolutely must have in a job. Create a 'Must Have' table and include what you have loved and hated about your previous work. Also include the 'perks' you liked but don't really need to make a good decision. Here is an example to get you started.

Must Have

Nice to have

Must NOT have

Short commute

Stock options

Isolated cubicle

Working in a team

Statistical reports

Direct report to CEO

Weekend work

Salary > $35K

Prepare this chart before you consider any individual job. Then use it to evaluate every opportunity you find. Remember that 'must have' means exactly that. Don't compromise!
